Baby Dolls

As a nice treat since Jason's homecoming, Daddy & Mommy took me to Kidspace to play today! But look who's goofing around in this picture!

I took all the baby dolls so that I could play with them today. Maybe it sort of reminds me of how I take care of my little brother Jason...
My Eating Chair

Mommy brought this chair out from hiding and this is the chair I like to use now when I eat. I'll let li'l brother use the old high chair, since I'm done with it and I feel so much more grown up in this chair.
Arm Around My Shoulder

I had another doctor's visit today, and it looks like I'm doing great now! I've zoomed past my birth weight & look much healthier and stronger and more alert. Well, what'd you expect? I just needed to get more MILK!!

Um, I know that big sis likes to "carry" me, but are you sure she knows how to hold me yet?

Oh, well I guess that's better, once she got her arm around me. Mmm, actually it's kind of nice, even.
Bottle Boy

I really like the bottle much better! More milk with less work - yeah! That's the way to go!
The Weight Gain Game Plan

Mommy's corner: For the next 24 hours, I was supposed to nurse Jason and top him off with formula every 2 hours, as a plan to help him gain weight. Sounds like a simple plan, right? Well, perhaps by this time, Jason had become so weak from hunger, that he did not feed well no matter what I tried. Even though I knew he was hungry, he kept falling asleep during each feeding. Worser still, if he was awake, he would become so agitated, he would start crying & fussing so much that I couldn't convince him to even nurse at all. It felt like I would spend an hour unsuccessfully trying to feed him, knowing that I would have to do the whole thing over again after the next hour. I tried to keep calm, but I was now fraught with so much stress, worry & helplessness, (not to mention fatigue) I was nearly beside myself. I felt like I was failing horribly and had to face up to the fact that Jason was in too much distress to nurse adequately at this time. So, I had to pull myself together and focus on what I could do, instead of what I couldn't do. I rushed over to the Breastfeeding Center at the Huntington Hospital to rent a breastpump...and with a bottle, finally Jason began to eat...and finally begin to gain weight.
First Doctor's Visit

Mommy's corner: We took Jason to the pediatrician for his 2-week checkup and confirmed what I had secretely feared...that Jason had lost weight and hadn't regained his birth weight back, yet. That sure explained a lot to me - it explained why he lost his chubby cheeks, and why he had increasingly been getting more fussy and unable to sleep well. The doctor encouraged me to continue nursing Jason, but wanted me nurse him every 2 hours and to top him off with formula after each feeding. I was asked to try this for 24 hours & return to the office to have Jason weighed again to see if and how much weight he would gain after following these directions. I left the office worried still, but relieved that we now had a "game plan" in place to help Jason.
Feeling Much Better

Mommy's corner: It's been a week since Nicole got sick with the Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease and thank goodness, most of the painful symptoms appear to have resolved. Here she is in one of her goofy, playful moments, just having some fun around the house.
Where are my chubby cheeks?

Mommy says that I've lost my chubby cheeks...more on that later...
Father-son Time

Since my Jeh Jeh has been sick, Mommy helps to take care of me, while Daddy helps to take care of Nicole. But sometimes in the evening, after Jeh Jeh goes to bed & Daddy takes his shower, I get to snuggle up with Daddy for some father-son time.
Still Whining

You might think I'm feeling better, but I'll cry and whine enough to remind you that I'm still one sick little girl! And sick little girls should be able to eat all the ice cream she wants and be able to skip naps altogether!
Nicole is starting to feel better

Mommy's corner: The good news is that Jason is sooo cute! Okay, when he's not crying, he's pretty cute!

The other good news is that Nicole is starting to play more with her toys again.

...but she's still not feeling well enough to eat very adequately. In addition, since we offered her ice cream & jello in the beginning, to make it easier for her to eat, she now refuses all other foods! All she is willing to eat is ice cream!...and sometimes jello!
Diaper Change Drama

First of all, I absolutely HATE changing diapers. I'm very upset every time you expose me to all that coldness out there! And second of all, what's with all this pink on the changing table?
One Week Old!

Mommy's corner: Jason is one week old today! I guess another perk about being in isolation with Jason is the opportunity to try to just enjoy the undivided time I have with him.
Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Mommy's corner: Within a few days after returning home with Jason, we discovered that the children at Nicole's preschool had been exposed to the Coxsacksie virus, which causes Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease. On this day, Nicole began running a mild fever and began to lose her appetite. Soon enough, we began to see some blisters appear on her hands, feet & buttocks area. But the worst were the many ulcers in her mouth. It was painful for her and prevented her from eating hardly at all. We resorted to jook, jello and ice cream, plus any liquids she would take, with variable success. Sometimes she would repeatedly ask for something to eat, but just start to cry when the food was presented to her, since it was too painful for her to put the food in her mouth. Out of concern for our newborn, Jason, we quickly isolated Jason & myself in my bedroom, allowing Po Po to take care of Nicole almost exclusively. It was very hard for Po Po, especially when Nicole was crying/whining literally nonstop - for days, was uncooperative and/or wanted my presence. Naptimes were especially difficult time for Nicole. If I went out of the bedroom to help Nicole, I would take every precaution not to bring the "germs" back to Jason. I'd change my clothes and wash my hands, my face or evenshower before I would pick up Jason again. We may have been extremely cautious, but can you imagine how awful it would be if Jason got sick as well & had to deal with painful ulcers in his mouth? For a newborn, the resultant dehydration may very well send him back to the hospital. Needless to say, today was the start of a very miserable time for all of us.

The only bright spot was the brandnew big screen TV that Daddy had just bought & installed. It would ocassionally help to distract Nicole from the painful blisters & ulcers.
Cozy Car Seat

Yeah, I know...I'm still sleeping. Sleeping in my car seat is one of the best places to sleep in. It keeps me snug & warm & cozy. I'd say you should try it, except you're probably too big and I've got dibs anyway.
"Baby Sleeping!"

This is the present my little brother got for me! She's my baby!

I think Baby Jason sure sleeps a lot - it seems like all the time!

If you ask me, I think that gets boring, because I'd rather go out and play or something! Right now, Daddy's going to take me out so I can go to preschool! See you later, Jason!
Homecoming

Guess what? I get to go home today. Mommy & Daddy have got me all bundled up & ready to go. But before I go...

...we're going to say goodbye to my first friend, Kassidy! Can you believe that we were born the exact same day? And we weighed exactly the same, and was exactly the same length?! Pretty cool, huh!...

It's really nice to see what my home looks like, and you guys are great and all, but...

...I'm ready to sleep some more again. Catch you later...
Visiting Hours

I'm all tuckered out from yesterday's events, but I had a lot of visitors today...just excuse me if I greet you with my eyes still closed....

My Yeh Yeh is holding me here very cautiously...

Ma Ma already has plans for how to take care of my mommy...

This is my Auntie Peggy & Uncle Patrick - they're going to get me a baby boy cousin to play with!

And this is my Uncle Scott. Looks an awful lot like my daddy, huh?

This is my Po Po who's come all the way from Texas to help take care of me and...

...my big sister, Nicole!

I got my big sister a special present (with a little help from Daddy & Mommy) - I really hope she likes it!

It looks like they're getting along so far!
Jason's Birth Day

Mommy's corner: I wasn't exactly ready today! I went in for my regular doctor's appointment and was told that I've already been in labor & was 4 cm dilated! I thought I was having really uncomfortable Braxton-Hicks contractions, but I guess it was the real thing! The doctor also said that my water bag was bulging & could break at any time...so the best thing for me to do was to walk over to the hospital (which is half a block away), check myself in, and get ready to have my baby today!

So even though I wasn't ready, it looks like our baby sure was!

So, as the proud parents, we'd like to introduce to you the newest member of our family - Jason Daniel Kwan!
Reading Chair

Po Po calls this my reading chair because I like to get in and ask for my books to read.
Favorite New Shoes

Mommy says I'm looking pretty in my Sunday dress & favorite new shoes!
Hide and Go Seek!

I bet nobody will find me in here! Shhh! Just don't tell anybody, okay?
Got Strawberry Milk?

I insisted on wearing my pajama bottoms today, instead of my regular pants! Ha ha! Do you like my pajama bottoms? It's a cow print pattern in pink!

It makes me think...anybody got some strawberry milk?
